Burn The Man!

Last night I met up with a friend I met through a mastermind group, and who is also an NLPer at heart. He was on a trek to the Burning Man event in the Black Rock Desert of Nevada, stopping in Utah on the way there from the East Coast.

We had a great time eating and talking about manifesting great things, and in modeling great individuals and social ideas that actually work. World-class stuff. He was really excited to be rubbing shoulders with some of the iconic leaders of internet marketing while there, and as I became more and more interested in that story, I also became more intrigued about the story of Burning Man, itself. A few years back, I had seen a small vignette of Burning Man on HBO, but when I went out to their website, it was clear that the event is growing tremendously, while its meaning continues to deepen and reach a world-wide audience.

It's always a slippery slope to try to dissect a great leader of anything, because it brings out the fight in people, but I couldn’t resist replying to a Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) forum post on whether Richard Bandler could be modeled. Here is my irreverent reply:

NLPers: have you seen the movie Inception yet? What an exciting movie packed with twist and turns, multiple layers and levels, slippery slopes and conflict and peril at every level! It's an NLP Practitioner's delight! At least symbolically, the movie portrays structures and levels within our individual and collective unconscious minds. Possibly the most interesting aspect of the movie is the idea of inception itself. It was the goal and driver for all the adventure.

At Grass Roots NLP, we search for NLP in real life with real people in real time. NLP happens all around us, whether they know it or not... Here is an example:

I met the locksmith in the usual circumstances... locked out of the corporate apartment, the key not placed where it should have been by the previous occupants.

If the one constant in life is change, and if NLP is all about facilitating positive change, then shouldn’t we as NLPers understand the nature of change, types of change, and when each type is effective? In this blog entry, I want to talk about several types of Change of the First Order.

As I network and work to build a grass roots community that can use aspects of NLP with autism, I find it very powerful to work with metaphors to get the creative juices flowing in myself and in the people I meet.

Like me, you may have friends and connections on a mission to “raise consciousness”, as though this would be the solution to the world’s problems. Other friends of mine never give consciousness a thought, or simply just dismiss the topic of consciousness as something new age people talk about a lot.
